Our Process

What is Resin Casting? Resin casting is a manufacturing and crafting process where you pour a liquid synthetic resin (a type of plastic) into a solid object (mold).
It's widely used for making duplicates of existing items, prototypes, jewellery, figurines, models, collectibles and small scale production parts.
Resin1 uses a variety of different resins which enables flexibility to achieve the best results.

Resins Used at RESIN1

Some of the resins we use at RESIN1 include:

  • Epoxy resin — Popular for clear, glossy finishes with low shrinkage. Good for art, jewellery, and embedding objects. Comes in casting formulas for deeper pours and coating resins for thinner layers.
  • Polyurethane resin — Faster-curing, durable, and available in opaque or flexible versions. Used for prototypes and functional parts.
  • Polyester resin — More economical and faster, but shrinks more, has stronger odour, and is less clear. Common in industrial or larger casts.
  • Others include acrylic or specialized UV-curing resins.

Each piece is unique and production methods can vary depending on customer requirements.

Basic Resin Casting Process

  • Create or prepare a mold — Flexible silicone rubber molds are commonly used because they allow easy removal without damage. Molds can be created from original objects.
  • Mix the resin — Resin typically comes as a two-part system: resin + hardener. They are mixed in precise ratios (e.g., 1:1 or 2:1), triggering polymerization where liquid turns solid.
  • Pour into the mold — Pour slowly to reduce air bubbles. Pigments, glitter, or embedded objects can be added for visual effects.
  • Cure (harden) — Resin sets at room temperature or with heat/UV light. Curing time varies from minutes to days. Some resins generate heat during this stage.
  • Demold and finish — Remove from mold, trim excess, and optionally sand, polish, or paint for final finishing.
